Mendeecees Harris, a star on VH1’s Love & Hip Hop, is officially headed to prison. The 36-year-old rap manager was given an eight-year prison sentence, stemming from his guilty plea to drug trafficking charges back in April.

According to Democrat & Chronicle, the judge gave Harris a 97-month prison sentence at a hearing in Rochester, N.Y., on Tuesday (Dec. 1). He was facing 10 years in prison for a federal drug trafficking crime. There’s no word on whether Harris, or his wife, Yandy Smith, was in the courtroom during sentencing.

Harris was free on bail and had to relinquish his fees from the show and public appearances to the federal government.

In May, Harris and Smith, tied the knot live for a VH1 special called Love & Hip Hop: The Wedding.

On Tuesday (Nov. 1), Harris went on his Instagram account and posted a letter explaining his situation. He also encourage young men to not follow in his footsteps.

"I want you all to understand something. I completely accept responsibility for all that is going on. My transition to be a better person a productive person started well before this case," he writes. "However, in my past I made some bad decisions. Young men let my life be an example to you now before it's too late. Better who you are now in your children's lives and in society so you can change the path of your fate. Lack of opportunities, a fatherless home, the unforgiven neighborhood and circumstances you grew up in can no longer be your excuse. Trust me I tried."

"To my wife and children you are all strong and well prepared for this. This is just another brick laid down towards our house of happily ever after," he continues. "Walk with your head held high knowing I would never past the buck and put another family through what we have endured. Continue to walk in faith and love as you've done so well. To my peoples thank you for all the encouragement and support please continue to encourage my family. Thank you again all."
