Bobby Shmurda Suing the NYPD for False Arrest on Drug, Gun Charges
Bobby Shmurda’s ongoing legal battle takes a major turn as the embattled rapper filed a Federal lawsuit against the New York Police Department for false arrest stemming from a 2014 raid in Brooklyn, N.Y.
According to the New York Daily News, Shmurda filed the lawsuit on Friday (April 29) in Brooklyn Federal Court. In his suit, the "Hot Boy" rapper alleges that while at a friend's apartment in Rockaway Parkway in Brooklyn on June 3, 2014, Officer Douglas Corso and other cops kicked in the door and illegally entered the residence without a search warrant.
The 21-year-old rhymer claims that while the police were allegedly turning the apartment upside down, they were teasing him by "chanting the lyrics to his chart-topping songs."
Police maintains that Shmurda was trying to hide a gun inside a couch. They also found drug paraphernalia in the apartment as well. However, Shmurda states in his lawsuit that neither the gun, nor drug paraphernalia found in the residence belong to him.
The gun charge in Brooklyn was eventually dismissed but Pollard is currently facing weapons possession charges in separate cases in Manhattan and the Bronx. Shmurda claims that he suffered permanent "nervous shock and mental anguish" as a result of the arrest.
Handling Shmurda's lawsuit is Derek Sells who is a civil rights attorney.
Shmurda is still in jail over December 2014 arrest on charges of conspiracy to commit murder in the second degree, reckless endangerment and criminal possession of a weapon. His bail was set to $2 million but attempts to pay it have been repeatedly denied by the judge several times.
The rapper's trial is expected to begin on May 11. Meanwhile, two alleged associates of Shmurda, Rashid Derissant and Alex Crandonhave, have been convicted of the February 2013 murder of a 19-year-old rival gang member in Brooklyn, N.Y.
Hopefully, Bobby Shmurda can overcome his legal hurdles and get out of jail real soon. Stay strong.
