Petition Launched to Have Sony Music Drop R. Kelly
The R. Kelly cult scandal has reached a fever pitch, as now people are demanding that his record label, Sony Music, drop him as an artist.
A petition has been launched urging Sony Music to drop R. Kelly following the Buzzfeed report that the Grammy-winning singer is allegedly running a sex cult and is holding six women captive in two of his rented Chicago and Atlanta properties. According to the report, Kelly is allegedly controlling the women's every move, including how they dress, when they bathe, sleep and use their cell phones. He also allegedly abuses the women both physically and verbally if they break any of his rules.
One of the alleged captives have spoken out and insists that she's not being brainwashed. The captive's father says he's not worried about being sued by R. Kelly for his claims.
The Care2 petition is asking for 7,000 digital signatures and so far it has gathered over 6,000 signatures.
“We must not let habitual abusers float above justice simply because they are rich and famous,” the petition reads. “Let’s work together to turn R. Kelly into a symbol for victim’s rights, reminding abusers everywhere that no one is untouchable.”
The veteran singer has denied all the allegations and plans to fight back legally to clear his name.
“Mr. Robert Kelly is both alarmed and disturbed at the recent revelations attributed to him,” his lawyer, Linda Mensch, said in a statement. “Mr. Kelly unequivocally denies such allegations and will work diligently and forcibly to pursue his accusers and clear his name.”
