R. Kelly’s Lawsuit Dismissed After He’s a No-Show in Court
R. Kelly took a major L in the courtroom last week. A judge dismissed his lawsuit against a concert venue after he failed to appear.
According to Pitchfork, Kelly was supposed to appear in court on May 15 regarding his legal case against Comcast Spectacor, a company that runs the Macon Coliseum in Georgia. The R&B vet sued the company claiming they reneged on a contract for a show he perform there. Kelly was seeking $100,000 in damages.
The lawsuit was seeking $100,000 plus other damages. Comcast Spectacor denied the singer’s allegations and requested that the case be dismissed.
At the hearing, U.S. District Court Judge John Robert Blakey threw out the lawsuit after Kelly’s third no-show, reports Pitchfork. Apparently, the 51-year-old singer had been warned to show up in court previously, and the judge had enough. Kelly and his attorneys already failed to appear at hearings on May 8 and April 3, court records show.
Speaking of lawyers, representatives of the RSK Enterprises, Heather Blaise, and Travis Life, withdrew themselves from the case altogether. The two legal eagles filed a motion to withdraw as attorneys for RSK Enterprises in April.
All of this comes as Kelly’s entertainment lawyer and spokesperson severed ties from his management team following several sexual misconduct allegations.
Recently, streaming platforms like Spotify, Apple Music, and Pandora have removed Kelly's music from their curated playlists and editorials.
Reps for R. Kelly had no comment on the matter.
