Snoop Dogg has blasted The Roots remake and urged fans not to watch. The first episode of the new mini-series may have been the most talked-about television event of Memorial Day Weekend, but The Doggfather has made it clear he wants no part of it.

Posting on Instagram, Snoop slammed the show and said that he doesn't want to see anymore television shows or films that depict black people during slavery.

"No disrespect but I can't watch no motherf**king black movies where n**gas get dogged out: 12 Years A Slave, Roots, Underground, I can't watch none of that s**t," he declared.

"I'm sick of this s---. How the f--- they gonna put Roots out on Memorial Day? They just gonna keep beatin' that s--- in our heads in how they did us, huh?" Snoop raged. "I mean, I don't understand it, man. They just wanna keep showing the abuse that we took hundreds and hundreds of years ago."

"But guess what? We're taking the same abuse. Think about that part. When y'all gonna make a motherf---ing series about the success that black folks was having? The only success we have is Roots and 12 Years A Slave and s--- like that, huh? F--- y'all."

Snoop's criticism echo what has become a common refrain amongst many black people since 12 Years A Slave won the Academy Award for Best Picture back in 2014: no more slave movies. The rapper also asked his followers to turn their backs on the new Roots show.

"I ain't watchin' that s---," he declared. "I advise you motherf---ing real n----s like myself, f--- them television shows. Let's create our own s--- based on today, how we live and how we inspire people today. Black is what's real. F--- that old s---."

The remake airs four episodes over four nights and features Forrest Whitaker, Malachi Kirby, Laurence Fishburne, Anna Pacquin, Anika Noni Rose, Jonathan Rhys Meyers and hip-hop star, T.I.
