Reports of XXXTentacion Signing a $6 Million Deal With Capitol Music Group Are Being Disputed
On Wednesday, it was reported that controversial rapper XXXTentacion had signed a record deal with Capitol Music Group for $6 million. Now, a source close to the situation is disputing the reports.
According to Variety, the "Revenge" rapper's deal is actually a distribution deal between the rapper's current label, Bad Vibes Forever, and Capitol Music Group's indie distributor Caroline. As for the $6 million, the source says that amount is likely overstated. It's also unclear if the deal has yet to go through, but the source stressed the deal is only for distribution.
The 19-year-old rapper has quickly rose from SoundCloud fame to mainstream fame, thanks to his song "Look at Me." In August, the Florida artist released his debut studio album, 17, which debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 chart.
While XXX has become a polarizing figure, it hasn't been without controversy. In 2016, the rapper was arrested on charges of domestic violence against his then-girlfriend. And in September, graphic depictions of his alleged abuse were published by Pitchfork.
The rapper's trial is scheduled for December.
