Andra Day has been wowing audiences with her soulful sound. The California-based singer garnered two Grammy nominations for her debut album Cheers to the Fall and performed at the awards ceremony with Ellie Goulding. Recently, the 31-year-old singer performed a soulful cover of Kendrick Lamar’s “No Makeup” at the 10th annual Roots Jam Session.

For those unfamiliar, “No Makeup (Her Vice)” is from K.Dot’s 2011 debut album, Section.80. The song features the Compton rhymer encouraging a young lady to love herself and not use makeup to cover up her insecurities.

For her performance, Day turns Kendrick song into jazzy anthem as she displays her acrobatic vocals and scatting skills. The songbird’s rendition does give off an Erykah Badu vibe, but clearly has a soulful style of her own.

Next up for Day is a performance at the White House. The "Rise Up" singer will perform as part of a tribute to the late and great Ray Charles. R&B artists Usher, Leon Bridges, Anthony Hamilton, soul legend Sam Moore, Empire star Jussie Smollett and others will also perform at the event.

The event will be streamed live at WhiteHouse.gov/live at 7PM ET on Wednesday (Feb. 24) and will broadcast on PBS on Friday (Feb. 26) at 9PM ET.
