Sophisticated beats, innovative rhymes and group chemistry. For some reason this fundamental approach to good hip-hop song making has been largely forsaken but not by Run the Jewels.

Take their latest single "Legend Has It" for example, off their forthcoming RTJ3 album. It's produced by El-P, Wilder Zoby and Little Shalimar and contains a dope voice loop, punchy drums and a dark bass line that makes the whole cut sound sinister.

Lyrically, Killer Mike and the former Company Flow member deliver an impressive back-and-forth flow, once again combining hip-hop styles of yesteryear with brand new sounds.

"Killing our patience suppressed, we oughta pay you the trust / Cooking up work, cooking up curses and slurs / Smoking my brain into mush / I became famous for blaming you f---- / Naming my way through the brush / There is no taming or training of me and my bruh," spits El-P.

Fans in the U.S. should expect RTJ3 to drop on January 13 and on January 20 in other parts of the globe. Features on the album include Trina, Danny Brown, Kamasi Washington, Tunde Adebimpe of TV on the Radio and others.
