"Hoop Dreamin', hanging up pictures of my idols. Jordan was like Jesus, SLAM was like the Bible. I used to read it twice and cut the pictures out. Had the Jordan free-throw dunk, tongue sticking out.” - J. Cole

Michael Jordan references are quite the norm in rap. But according to N.O.R.E., MJ likely has never heard any of them because he doesn’t like rap music.

In a recent interview with Rap Radar, the veteran rapper said the six-time champion doesn’t respect hip hop. N.O.R.E recalls shooting the “Oh No” video back in 1999. In the video, directed by Hype Williams, MJ was caught in a shot of the audience at a Roy Jones Jr. fight but His Airness wouldn’t allow his image to be used.

“Jordan is a hater of hip-hop,” N.O.R.E said, before expounding on the details from that incident.

But in addition to not wanting to be apart of his video, N.O.R.E broke down another displeasing experience he had with Jordan.

“I seen him shut Redman down at a Def Jam Christmas party,” the Queens native said. “We were all sitting there waiting to speak to Michael Jordan. N---s said, ‘Yo, Redman and Method Man is here.’ [MJ] said, ‘F--k rap.’ I seen the n—- say that … Quote me. I believe it was Redman and Method Man, and I’m to the side, so I can directly hear his voice. He was like, ‘F--k rap.’ That s--- hurt me. Def Jam Christmas party, Mariah Carey hosting and sh*t like that. He only spoke to Hov…That’s without a doubt.”
