Method Man Pleads Guilty to Tax Evasion
Method Man is owning up to his debt to Uncle Sam, entering a guilty plea to a misdemeanor charge of attempted failure to pay taxes. Meth, born Clifford Smith, entered the plea in Staten Island Criminal Court today (June 28), paying the last $40,000 of his $106,000 bill. The Wu-Tang member's tax woes date back to 2004 in which he failed to file New York State taxes all the way to 2007.
Last year the 39-year-old turned himself in to the Staten Island DA for the bill which at its highest reached almost $33,000 for one year, not including fees and penalties. Meth escaped jail time by taking care of the tab and was handed down a conditional discharge sentence, meaning he will stay out of jail so long as he stays out of trouble.
Unfortunately, Meth finds himself in good company when it comes to rappers that haven't paid their taxes. Nas, Snoop Dogg and Fat Joe have all run into tax trouble. Perhaps all of these guys should think about firing their accountants.
