Kendrick Lamar’s ‘DAMN.’ Collector’s Edition to Feature Reversed Tracklist
Kendrick Lamar had previously confirmed a fan theory that DAMN. could be played in reverse and would still make a cohesive story. Now, the Grammy-winning rapper is taking the theory one step further and releasing a collector's edition of DAMN. with the tracklist in reverse.
While the original DAMN. released in August kicks off with the song "BLOOD.," the collector's edition will now begin with "DUCKWORTH." The new version of the album was leaked by Microsoft's online music store and also shows off a new black-and-white cover for the project.
“I think like a week after the album came out, [fans] realized you can play the album backwards…It plays as a full story and even a better rhythm… It’s something that we definitely premeditated while we’re in the studio,” Kendrick previously told MTV.
He added, “I don’t think the story necessarily changes, I think the feel changes…The initial vibe listening from the top all the way to the bottom is…this aggression and this attitude. You know, ‘DNA,’ and exposing who I really am. You listen from the back end, and it’s almost the duality and the contrast of the intricate Kendrick Lamar. Both of these pieces are who I am.”
