Kendrick Lamar’s ‘Damn.’ Bows at No. 1 on Billboard 200 With Biggest Sales Week of 2017
Move over Drake there's a new king in town. Kendrick Lamar’s critically acclaimed album Damn. premiered at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart with the biggest sales week of any artist in 2017.
The Compton rhymer moved a whopping 603,000 equivalent album units earned for the week, according to Nielsen Music (via Billboard). This achievement smashed Drake’s first-week sales totals for More Life, which grabbed 505,000 units when it debuted back in March.
K.Dot’s Damn. is also his third No. 1 album of his career following last year’s Untitled Unmastered. and 2015’s To Pimp a Butterfly. Billboard reports that the strength of Damn. sales came from streaming services. The album garnered 341 million streams during its first week of release. However, Drake still holds the streaming title with more than 385 million streams during More Life premiere week.
Meanwhile, Lamar’s mother loves her son’s new album. Kung Fu Kenny shared a screenshot of a lengthy text message his mom Paula Oliver recently sent him. In the tweet below, you can see that mama LOVES her son's project in the emoji-filled message.
