J. Cole has been dropping some absolute fire lately. After last week's premiere of his 'Who Dat' street single, the North Carolina upstart hit up New York City's Hot 97 for his first freestyle on Funkmaster Flex's show -- a rite of passage for MCs hoping to strike it big. J. Cole came through with some breathless wordplay and got a classic bomb drop from Flex -- something he has apparently been praying for since he started a rap career.

Over the beats of Raekwon's classic 'Ice Cream' and 'Blow the Whistle' (a Too Short joint that Cole-mentor Jay-Z famously ripped a few years ago), the MC seemed to go off the head without a Blackberry or crib notes.

"This is Andre mixed with Kanye mixed with Jay and then Nas," he freestyled. "Couldn't name a bug with a buzz bigger than mine/ Man, I'm damn near homeless how I'm picking up dimes/ But nevermind that/ Look how I'm bringing these clever lines back." A few bars later, he continued: "Hiroshima flow/ Napalm/ Used to pray to God that Funk Flex would drop a bomb." At this point, Flex happily granted Cole's wish.

Fans still await a release date for J. Cole's official debut album on Roc Nation. Head over to You Heard That New for an audio stream and download.
