Houston Hook King Big T Dies, Lil Flip, Slim Thug and More React

The Houston hip-hop community is mourning this morning (May 8), following the news of rapper and singer Big T's death. Big T, best known for crooning the catchy hook on Lil’ Troy’s 1999 hit “Wanna Be a Baller,” reportedly died of a heart attack, according to Screwed Up Click member Mike D.

Big T, whose real name is Terence Prejean, was known as the “Million Dollar Hook King” for his baritone vocals on songs by Houston legends Lil’ Flip (“Baller”), the late Big H.A.W.K. ("Chillin With My Broad") and Lil O (“We Ain’t Broke No Mo").

Big T was also a rapper and released several solo projects on his own, including 2000's Power Move and 2001's Million Dollar Hooks.

Upon hearing the news of Big T's death, several Houston rappers paid their respects to the Houston artist on social media. Lil' Flip spent much of Monday (May 7) honoring his late collaborator and dear friend on his Instagram account.

"Dis sh*t crazy man...dis da 3rd person I lost within the last 7 days," he wrote in a post featuring a photo of himself and Big T.

"Big T always came thru 4 me and sung hooks 4 me!! Man we was about to start on our [Lil' Flip and Big T album]. Man, I'm gonna miss u bro. I appreciate u singing on 8 songs on my [King Life] album and singing on all my other albums as well. We gonna miss u bro."

Fellow Houston rapper Slim Thug went on his Instagram page and posted a video of himself rapping a verse in honor of Big T.

We want to send our heartfelt condolences to Big T and his family. May he rest in peace.
