‘Hidden Figures’ Trailer Debuts Starring Janelle Monae, Taraji P. Henson and Octavia Spencer [WATCH]

The trailer for the highly-anticipated NASA drama Hidden Colors debuted online last night (Aug. 14) and fans are buzzing after first look at the film, which stars Janelle Monae, Taraji P. Henson and Octavia Spencer.

The film directed by Ted Melfi, is based on Margot Lee Shetterly's book Hidden Figures: The Story of the African-American Women Who Helped Win the Space Race. Slated to land in theaters in 2017, Hidden Figures will center on three highly sought Black women who overcame impossible gender and racial barriers to aid in NASA's "Friendship 7 mission." Their story is one that very few people know and their historic work resulted in astronaut John Glenn becoming the first American to orbit the Earth in February 1962.

Monae's love for space and robotics is no new phenomenon. Her albums and artwork, particularly her Metropolis and ArchAndroid projects, have always highlighted an Afro-Futuristic sensibility.

“It’s already written. But I’m thinking of going and being a part of NASA, joining their tech team, so I can get a free ride to space. So that’s my next move. Who knows what we’re going to do next," Monae told Billboard back in March. “It’s already written.
