Janelle Monae Delivers Empowering New Video for ‘PYNK’ [WATCH]
Janelle Monáe is gearing up to release her new album, Dirty Computer, and has dropped off a few videos leading up to the drop date.
The latest is the video for "PYNK," which finds the singer singing softly over finger-snaps and a retro bass-line by longtime Wondaland producers Nate Wonder and Chuck Lightning. The song is an ode to feminism, as Janelle turns "pink" into a code word of empowerment.
"Pink like the inside of your, baby/Pink behind all of the doors, crazy/Pink like the tongue that goes down, maybe/Pink like the paradise found/Pink when you're blushing inside, baby/Pink is the truth you can't hide, maybe/Pink like the folds of your brain, crazy/Pink as we all go insane," she sings on the first verse.
The melanin abounds in the fun, colorful video, which features a bevy of women chilling in the desert, working out and just generally being awesome. Once again, actress Tessa Thompson makes a cameo in the video that will likely only fuel the rumors that two are dating. Thompson also starred in the video for Janelle's ode to bi-sexuality, "Make Me Fee.l"
"PYNK is a brash celebration of creation. self love. sexuality. and pussy power! PYNK is the color that unites us all, for pink is the color found in the deepest and darkest nooks and crannies of humans everywhere... PYNK is where the future is born..." a statement about the video reads.
Back in February, Janelle revealed that Prince was helping her work on her new album before his untimely passing in April 2016.
“Prince actually was working on the album with me before he passed on to another frequency, and helped me come up with sounds. I really miss him, it’s hard for me to talk about him," she told BBC.
Janelle Monáe's fourth album, Dirty Computer, will arrive on April 27. Check the video above.
