Reading is fundamental and with the help of Big Sean and other fellow rappers, Ellen DeGeneres was able to help a second grade teacher promote reading and learning to his students.

On Friday’s show (Feb. 17), Ellen introduced her viewers to Michael Bonner, a fantastic educator to his second grade students in North Carolina. Since the school is so underfunded, Ellen outfitted his school with $25,000 worth of iPad minis, televisions and Beats by Dre headphones. She also launched a GoFundMe page for the school, which has already over $80,000 in donations.

Ellen took it a step further and created a remix video for his students called “Read It” featuring Big Sean. In the clip, the Detroit native arrives in the classroom with an apple and drops motivational bars about reading. “Reading helps us learn information for school,” he raps. “So we can answer questions and we can be cool.”

Also appearing in the video are fellow rappers Lin-Manuel Miranda, Ice Cube, Ty Dolla $ign and the Migos as they all spit nursery-style rhymes about reading.

This is a fun video that is both educational and inspiring. Watch Michael Bonner and his students on the Ellen show below.
