Songs of the Week: Troy Ave, Wale, Chrisette Michelle
We’re just beginning to get into the thick of June and it’s already been a solid month of music releases. Summer will officially be in full swing soon and that means predictions of who will have the song that runs the summer and hold court over the various parties and events the public will be partaking in over the course of the next three months. While a consensus of the song that will hold that distinction has yet to be determined, what’s more important is that we have a fresh batch of tunes for your listening pleasure with our latest edition of Songs of the Week.
Last week, YG, Vic Mensa, and Kanye West filled the top three slots, but this week is equally stacked with a few notable releases as well.
Check out these three new heaters tracks from Troy Ave, Wale, and Chrisette Michelle that managed to crack our list.

"Equal"
Chrisette Michelle Featuring Rick RossChrisette Michelle, one of r&b's more notable talents, has returned with her latest offering, "Equal." Featuring a guest appearance from Rick Ross, the track finds the songstress gliding over hearty piano keys, drum-kicks, and snares while declaring her self-worth, proclaiming herself as "equal" to her lover. Chrisette Michelle's new album, Milestone, touched down yesterday, which means listeners that are ready for another heaping of soul should have enough material from the acclaimed vocalist to keep them well-fed for the foreseeable future.

"Chuck Norris (Hoes & Gangstas)"
Troy AveEmbattled Brooklyn rapper Troy Ave may be embroiled in the fight of his life after being indicted on murder and attempted murder charges following the Irving Plaza shooting last month, but continues to keep his grind in motion with a new release, titled "Chuck Norris (Hoes & Gangsta's)." The first leak in anticipation of his recently released Free Troy Ave mixtape, "Chuck Norris" sees the BSB franchise player shouting out the ladies and the major players in the street while denouncing snitches on top of a snare-heavy track dressed up with thumping kicks and persistent synths. While it's unlikely Troy Ave will be seeing the streets anytime soon, "Chuck Norris" should have his voice ringing among listeners and is one of the more worthy rap releases of this past week.

"Her Wave"
WaleAfter experiencing redemption last year with his Album About Nothing release, Wale has been putting the pieces in place for what looks to be an eventful second half to 2016. Keeping his name in circulation via guest appearances and the occasional leak, Mr. Folarin adds to his pile of one-off releases with "Waves," an aptly-titled cut which sees the DMV wonderkid getting fluid with the lyricism. With Self Made 4, MMG's forthcoming compilation album, touching down soon, as well as his next solo studio-album, SHINE, slated to arrive before the year's end, "Waves" keeps up the ambitious pace Wale has set thus far and is required listen in terms of new rap releases this week.
