Atlanta rapper, Shawty Lo, real name Carlos Walker, has died in a hit and run accident, Atlanta's WXIA confirms.

Radio personality, V 103's Ryan Cameron broke the news, tweeting that the 40 year-old rapper was killed in a hit and run accident this morning (Sept. 21), according to his manager Johnny Cabell.

WXI reports that according to GDOT, Walker's vehicle was struck by another vehicle while on I-285, a popular highway that forms a perimeter around Atlanta. Walker's car hit two trees before catching on fire. Authorities say one person died after being ejected, and two others were transported to the hospital.

The Atlanta rapper came onto the scene with rap group D4L, alongside Fabo, Mook B and Stoney. In 2003, the rapper founded D4L Records, and eventually signed a distribution deal with 50 Cent's G-Unit Records in 2011. However, in 2015, he announced a new distribution deal to Grown Money Records.

But Shawty Lo's major rise to prominence came in 2008, when he made his solo debut with the album Units in the City, which spawned the hit, "Dey Know." The song landed in the Top 40 of the Billboard 200 and won Track of the Year at the 2008 BET Hip Hop Awards.

Shawty Lo is survived by 11 children; 9 daughters and 2 sons. Our condolences to his children and his family.
