Remy Ma Sentenced to Eight Years in Prison
Remy Ma was sentenced to eight years in prison for shooting her longtime friend Makeda Barnes-Joseph in the stomach for allegedly lifting $3,000 from her purse. The 26-year-old rapper was found guilty of first-degree assault, criminal weapons charges and attempted coercion on March 27.
"I stand here today as Remy Mackie," she said before the judge read the sentence. "I'm a loving wife, mother and loving daughter and loving sister to my brothers and sisters." Remy wept as she apologized to Barnes-Joseph, but the judge did not sympathize with the rap diva.
"This is somewhat of a pattern. This is not the first time she has been engaged in a violent act. She never took responsibility for her actions,"the judge said. "This has nothing to do with rap it's about the actions of one person. Remy is an extremely angry young woman who feels the rules do not apply to her."

In related Remy news, the rapper's jailhouse wedding ceremony was called off on Monday when her fiance, Brooklyn, New York rapper Papoose, allegedly attempted to smuggle a handcuff key into the Rikers Island Correctional facility. "A wedding was scheduled today and a visitor to that wedding service was found to be in possession of jail contraband so the wedding was canceled," a correction official said. Papoose was not charged, but the rapper was escorted out of the jail and will not be able to visit Remy for six months.
