Vince Staples, King Mez, J-Doe, Casey Veggies and Raury prove that their lyrical skills make the cypher complete at the 2015 BET Hip Hop Awards Tuesday (Oct. 13).

North Carolina MC King Mez entered 2015 as the best kept secret and will exit the year as one of rap's most lauded prospects. Contributing his pen to Dr. Dre's much anticipated Compton album, that cosign and exposure has helped land him a spot in this year's BET Hip Hop Awards cypher lineup. He came to play, setting things off with a dope opening verse.

Mez delivered a solid warm up, but things really get going when J-Doe steps up with a standout freestyle of his own. The rapper drops humorous bars like, "I moved on from a top model, yeah, I'm sorry Eva" and makes it a point to shout out his hometown hood of Inglewood, Calif. while he's at it. Admitting he's "tryna leave the scene with Tinashe," J-Doe seems intent on making his name known. "I came from the bottom, look at where I'm chilling at," he continues, giving his best effort on the rhyming tip with rewind-worthy quips. "I been iller than chinchilla wrapped in a 100 degrees."

When the list of cypher participants were announced, more than a few people likely gave the side-eye once they saw Raury's name. He's considered more of a cherubic hybrid artist than a bona fide spitter, so it's safe to say the ATLien was going to be out of place in the remorseless rhyme pit that is a cypher. However, Raury more than rose to the occasion and saw his stock rise with the matter of a verse. West Coast rep Casey Veggies also steps up to the plate and hits a homerun of his own with a couple strong bars.

2015 has been a breakout year for Vince Staples. His debut album, Summertime '06, was well-received and he completed the transition from blog favorite to a budding star. This is a guy always ready for a lyrical sparring session, so the BET cypher is right up the Def Jam signee's alley. Showing disregard for the beat, Staples gets busy from the get. "This a young man's race, getting sick of all the grays" and "Momma said live your life before somebody take it." He outlasted the beat and made the awards show three-for-three as far as the cyphers go.
