Pennsylvania governor Tom Wolf has thrown his support behind Meek Mill after Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner said he wouldn’t block the rapper’s release on bail.

As we previously reported, Mill’s attorneys, Joe Tacopina and Brian McMonagle, have been fighting diligently to get the Philly rapper release from jail after it was discovered that the arresting officer has a history of alleged misconduct in the force.

Mill was 19-years-old at the time of his arrest and was sentenced to 10 years probation. The rapper is currently serving a two to four year sentence for violating his probation stemming from the nearly decade-old case.

In a retweet of a Philly.com story reporting Krasner’s decision, Governor Wolf made a statement via his Twitter account. He tweeted:

Meek Mill's team reposted the tweet via the rapper’s Instagram account.

However, this doesn't mean that Mill's prison release is a guaranteed lock. Common Pleas Court Judge Genece E. Brinkley, who imprisoned the rapper in the first place, has to make that decision. She is currently under scrutiny by the rapper's attorneys for alleged misconduct in her chambers. They are asking the Pennsylvania Supreme Court to remove Judge Brinkley from his case altogether.

Mill’s mother, Kathy Williams, said in a statement on Wednesday (March 21): “I pray that God gives Judge Brinkley the wisdom to make the right decision and allow my son to return home to his family.”

Meek Mill's next hearing is scheduled for April 16. He's currently incarcerated at a state prison in Chester, Pa.
