Mariah Carey was caught in an awkward situation this morning while during an interview with Good Morning Britain today (Oct. 2). Right before her interview with GMB co-host Piers Morgan, breaking news of the mass shooting in Las Vegas happened and abruptly put things on hold.

Carey was initially on the program to talk about her upcoming Christmas mini-tour and had no idea it seems about the Las Vegas shooting that left over 50 people dead. When Morgan cut back to Carey, who was sitting on a couch with a large Christmas tree in the background, he asked her how she felt about the Las Vegas shooting.

In the video above, you can see the R&B singer was visibly caught off guard by the news and the question. Nevertheless, Carey was saddened by the news and told Morgan, “That’s awful. I pray for the victims and I hope all this can stop as soon as possible.”

Fans jumped on Twitter to criticize Morgan for not briefing Carey on the Vegas shooting before going on-air. Other people, who didn't know Carey was promoting her Christmas concert, were asking why the singer was perched in front of a Christmas tree while talking about the shooting.

Morgan responded to the criticism via his Twitter account tweeting, "We told Mariah's people before the interview. Her reaction seemed very relevant given she's a performer who often has residence in Vegas."

Later in the morning, Carey, and hundreds of other musicians, went on social media to send their heartfelt prayers to the victims' families of the terrible tragedy in Las Vegas.
