Mariah Carey Being Sued by Former Manager for Alleged Civil Rights Violations
Mariah Carey has been hit with a lawsuit by her former manager Stella Bulochnikov.
According to Page Six, Bulochnikov filed court documents in New York last Friday (April 13), alleging that the 48-year-old pop icon violated the U.S. Civil Rights Act and the Fair Employment and Housing Act, as well as breach of contract.
Carey fired Bulochnikov last year and signed with JAY-Z’s management company Roc Nation. At the time, sources told Page Six that Mimi was cleaning house.
"She is getting legitimate people, assistants, a lawyer, and Stella is not happy about it,” said an insider. "Previously, there were all kinds of people involved [in her career] and Mariah didn’t even know those people. She had to distance herself from all that and she’s now cleaning house."
Bulochnikov is seeking monetary damages plus interest, according to her suit.
Carey’s rep told Page Six that Bulochnikov lawsuit is frivolous and without merit. “We will defend against it vigorously and successfully,” said the rep.
This news come as Mariah Carey revealed that she is bipolar. The veteran songbird said she was diagnosed back in 2001 following a breakdown, but for years lived in denial, which caused both her career and personal life to suffer. However, Carey says she's recently sought treatment.
