Rapper Joey Bada$$ is happy and carefree in his latest visual for “Devastated.” The song is the first single off the Brooklyn rhymer’s album, which is still a work in progress.

In the jubilant visual, directed by Bada$$ and Shomi Patwary, the Pro Era leader wakes up on the football field and is suddenly thrust into a pep rally with cheerleaders wearing Pro Era T-shirts and a roaring crowd cheering on the rapper.

"I used to be so devastated,” he raps. “At times I thought we’d never make it / But now we’re on our way to greatness / And all that ever took was patience.”

We then see Joey Bada$$ walking alone in his Brooklyn neighborhood when suddenly a block party erupts and the rapper is crowd surfing with partygoers.

In an interview with Rolling Stone, Joey Bada$$ says he wanted to give his fans an upbeat song to help motivate them in their daily lives.

"My main objective was to give people a feel-good, uplifting song, 'cause a lot of music in my catalog is really introspective or meditative, critical-thinking type of vibes, or really aggressive type of vibes," he explained. "So I wanted to switch it up and give my fans something new, like something they can listen to and feel good about. Something that you could play for the whole world – you know, kids, grandmoms, everyone. Something that everyone could relate to."
