JAY-Z Files Trademark for ‘Jaybo’ From ‘The Story of O.J.’ Video
It looks as if some new JAY-Z merch could be on the way soon.
According to TMZ, Jay's company, S. Carter Enterprises, has filed documents to trademark the character "Jaybo" from his video, "The Story of O.J." The plan is reportedly to use the image on sweaters, hats, blankets, shams, dinnerware, mugs, cocktail shakers and thermal containers.
The video was widely praised upon its release as the lead single from the rapper's Grammy nominated 4:44. It's based on the character "Sambo," with Jay basically reclaiming the image as he raps about black empowerment, the financial health of the community, and the truth about white privilege and oppression in black communities.
Jay's 4:44 album is good for more than just dope merchandise. It was also recently revealed that the project inspired a financial advice book as well. he message of buying black, black financial empowerment and wealth-building is weaved throughout the entire project, from "The Story of O.J." to "Legacy" and even "Family Feud." "What's better than one billionaire? Two. Especially when they from the same hue as you," Jay famously asks on the record.
At any rate, if merchandise is on the way, it should be really interesting, to say the least.
