In the pantheons of Houston's deep hip-hop history lives Slim Thug. Born Stayve Jerome Thomas, the rapper turns 35 years old today (Aug. 8).

Slim Thug is still best known for being featured on Mike Jones' slick, unapologetically southern-cooked track "Still Tippin" -- Jones' biggest hit. Thugga did have solo success of his own, though. His 2005 debut LP, Already Platinum, went gold, and he went on to drop five more albums. Slim Thug's latest, Hogg Life 2: Still Surviving, dropped in July.

While he's certainly kept himself busy with his own projects, Thug seems to shine bright when he comes to collabos. He received another taste of the mainstream spotlight thanks to being featured on Beyonce's "Check On It," a No. 1 Billboard hit in 2006. But, aside from getting a guest spot on Clipse's classic Hell Hath No Fury and a Gwen Stefani song, Slim Thug's solo career remains mostly southbound. However, he's an act who commands respect.
