GuruThose following Gang Starr rapper Guru's falling out with his former partner, DJ Premier, have probably suspected that something strange is going on with the recovering MC.

Guru, born Keith Elam, recently underwent surgery after suffering a heart attack and slipping into a coma. His care was left to "superproducer" Solar, an allegedly "manipulative" figure who maintains an unsavory influence on the rap legend, according to Guru's friends and family.

A recent YouTube video made by Guru's nephew, Justin Nicholas-Elam Ruff, alleges that Solar kept the family in the dark about the rapper's illness for two weeks, and continues to keep them at a distance, refusing Elam's own mother to visit him.

"Since the information leaked, Solar has completely cut us off," Ruff said in the video. "My family has no way of knowing what is going on with Guru's situation. Solar has complete control over the flow of information given from the hospital, and will not disclose any information with us. The doctors and staff won't discuss any information with Guru's family."

With the hospital giving Solar what seems to be Power of Attorney -- allowing him to make some very serious decisions about the sick rapper's future, should Guru lose consciousness again -- Guru's family is attempting to hire a lawyer to change the situation. Settling the power struggle could take weeks.

"Unfortunately we do not have a couple of weeks," Ruff continued. "My uncle Guru is in a serious state of health right now. It's the family's right to know his status. I know Solar has been his right hand man for the last six years, but that does not give him the right to make decisions on whether or not the family gets to see Guru, or learn about his status. The fact that he is acting like this lets me know he does not have Guru's best interest in mind."

Guru allegedly released a statement after regaining consciousness, saying that he is awake and getting healthier. "Solar is the only person who has the accurate info on my situation," the statement continued. "Any info from anybody else is false!"

The statement aroused suspicion in those close to Elam, including DJ Premier's friend and label manager Gordon Franklin, who has publicly questioned Solar's intentions. "I wanna hear from the person or persons who Guru (allegedly) spoke those words to," Franklin said. "Better yet his doctor ... so they can look me in the face and tell me he woke from his coma and uttered those very words quoted in the quote ... or even better ... hear it from the horse's mouth ... I just wanna know that my dude really did wake from that coma and spoke those words ... because the alternative is just damn sad and disappointing ... until then imma keep praying hoping and waiting."

This is an extremely sad situation. We will continue to report on Guru's condition as we learn more, but in the meantime, view Guru's nephew's YouTube video here.
