Last April, Keith "Guru" Elam passed away, leaving the hip-hop community with one less rap pioneer to call on. The famed Gang Starr member, who was best known for crafting tracks like 'Moment of Truth' with DJ Premier, fell victim to cancer on April 19, 2010. In honor of his life's work, his family has announced they will be holding a tribute event to mark the one-year anniversary of the rapper's death.

Revive Music Group, which notes its label as serving as New York's leader in conceptual and never-before-experienced live music productions, will mark their fifth anniversary in an event titled the Revive Da Live Big Band Tribute and pay homage to Guru and the Jazzmatazz Legacy. The celebration, held on April 21, will take place at New York City's Le Poisson Rouge venue. Tickets to the tribute are $20 in advance and $25 at the door.

Directed by pianist Marc Cary and trumpeter Igmar Thomas, the big band tribute will showcase several unnamed special guests while paying homage to the fallen MC.

Guru's nephew Justin Elam-Ruff will debut The X Label G.U.R.U. clothing line, during the event. The line benefits a trust fund set up for Guru's son, K.C. Elam.

Guru was 48 at the time of his death.
