Legendary Parliament-Funkadelic frontman George Clinton has been hospitalized for a staph infection in his leg.

TMZ reports that the 69-year-old 'One Nation Under a Groove' singer was admitted to the hospital so that doctors could monitor the infection and ensure that he receives the treatment he requires. The ailment was detected during a routine check-up.

A representative for Clinton promises that the infection is not life-threatening, and that the funk pioneer will make a full recovery. "He will be just fine," the rep told TMZ. "Thank you for all your prayers and concern."

George Clinton, whose music has been sampled by countless artists, from Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg to Diddy and Prince, filed a copyright suit against the Black Eyed Peas in December 2010, claiming that his signature was forged in a contract to clear the rights to his song '(Not Just) Knee Deep,' which was unlawfully used on the Peas' 2003 hit 'Shut Up.'

Clinton recently donated some P-Funk memorabilia to the Smithsonian's National Museum of African American History and Culture. The Mothership, the giant, cosmic stage prop used in George Clinton and Parliament-Funkadelic shows throughout the years, will be a permanent installation in the museum when it opens in Washington D.C. in 2015.
