De La Soul Celebrates ‘De La Soul Is Dead’ 25th Anniversary With Unreleased Track
De La Soul is in the giving spirit. The legendary rap trio is gifting fans a rare treat in the form of unreleased track in celebration of the 25th anniversary of their 1991 album, De La Soul Is Dead.
On Friday (May 13), De La released a never before heard studio outtake of “Sho Nuff,” produced by Posdnuos. The jazzy throwback song is just what we needed to get in to zone for their upcoming project, And the Anonymous Nobody, their Kickstarter-funded ninth studio album.
The forthcoming album will find the group - members Posdnous, Dave Jolicoeur (aka Trugoy) and Maseo - remaining true to their roots and artistic vision. "I think we're comfortable in just feeling that we don't fit. I think sometimes, the object that is all the way over there,” Posdnous told Rolling Stone back in February.
Even Nas approved of what De La Soul has in store. “You almost want to pay more attention, because the object's here. Everyone's there," explains Pos. "It's funny... we even at one point let Nas hear a bunch of tracks. And it was just dope how he was like, 'Yo man, this is like some avant-garde s---.'
De La Soul's And The Anonymous Nobody drop August 29.
