Beyonce shined at the 2016 CFDA Awards in New York on Monday night (June 6). Not only that, the R&B queen delivered a powerful speech aimed at the fashion industry’s flawed ideal of what they think is beauty.

Queen Bey, who was being honored with the 2016 Fashion Icon Award, was completely dressed for the occasion. Accompanied by Jay Z and daughter Blue Ivy, the R&B mom wore a shimmering pinstripe suit designed by Givenchy.

During her powerful acceptance speech, she thanked her mother, Tina Knowles, for designing some of her outfits through the years.

"My mother — who’s so fabulous and beautiful and is here tonight, I love you — my grandmother, and my uncle were always with me so I could not fail," she said. "My mother actually designed my wedding dress, my prom dress, my first CFDA Awards dress, my first Grammy dress, and the list goes on and on and this to me is the true power and potential of fashion."

She then encourage the designers in the fashion industry to inspire and not be inclusive when it comes to presenting positive body image.

"Soul has no color. no shape, no form. Just like all your work it goes so far beyond what the eyes can see," she said. "You have the power to change perception, to inspire and empower, to show people how to embrace their complications and flaws and see the true beauty that’s inside all of us."
