Beyonce Loses Houston Rockets Team Bid to Billionaire Restaurateur
Beyoncé had a fantastic birthday weekend, but it looks like one of her wishes didn’t come true. In August, it was reported that she was interested in buying the Houston Rockets team. Sadly, it’s not going to happen.
ESPN is reporting that the Houston Rockets have been to sold to local billionaire restaurateur Tilman Fertitta for $2.2 billion, which is a record sales price for an NBA franchise. Terms of the sale were not disclosed.
"I am truly honored to have been chosen as the next owner of the Houston Rockets," said Fertitta in a statement released by the team. "This is a life-long dream come true."
According to reports, the current owner, Leslie Alexander, bought the team for $83 million back in 1993. So in the end, Alexander made a good investment. "I am excited to welcome and pass the torch to Tilman," said Alexander in a statement regarding the sale. "He is a Houstonian, business leader and committed to the success and excellence of the Rockets both on and off the basketball court."
Fertitta, who reportedly is worth $3 billion, owns Landry's, Inc., one of the nation's biggest restaurant corporations, and Golden Nugget Casinos and Hotels. He also stars in the CNBC reality show Billion Dollar Buyer where he buys upstart companies.
Reps for Beyoncé had no comment on the matter.
