Benzino’s nephew was convicted on an assault and battery charge stemming from a 2014 shooting at a funeral procession in Boston.

To get you up to speed, Benzino was shot by his nephew, Gai Scott, over a long simmering family feud that came ahead at the funeral of the rapper's mother in March of 2014. According to police, the incident happened during the funeral procession. Gai was driving in his Bentley when he pulled up alongside Benzino’s Dodge SUV and opened fire.

Benzino, born Raymond Scott, was shot in his right arm and back. The 51-year-old rapper was rushed to a nearby hospital by a good samaritan where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Since the shooting, Gai maintains that he was acting in self-defense when he shot his uncle.

According to Boston.com, a jury deliberated for 17 hours on Thursday (Aug. 18) and found Gai guilty of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon but was found not guilty of armed assault with intent to murder.

The Gia Scott’s sentencing on the aforementioned charges has been scheduled for Aug. 26.

Benzino has been out of the spotlight for awhile but it looks like he’s in great spirits. He’s a father now and is very active in gym judging from his photos on his Instagram page. The former executive of The Source magazine is still rapping. He just released a video for the song, “Flexin’ for the Check.”
