Benzino Shot During His Mother’s Funeral Procession in Boston
'Love & Hip-Hop Atlanta’ star Benzino was reportedly shot during his mother funeral procession in Boston on Saturday (March 29).
According to the WCVB-TV, Benzino, born Raymond Scott, was shot in his right arm by his nephew, Gai Scott.
"There has been growing family tension between Raymond Scott and Gai Scott," said Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz in a statement.
Police say the shooting occurred around noon on Route 3 in Duxbury, Mass. Gai was driving in his Bentley when he pulled up alongside Benzino's Dodge SUV and opened fire.
The 48-year-old reality-TV star was taken to the Duxbury Police Department by a passerby and then transported to South Shore Hospital where he was treated for non-fatal injuries.
Gia is in police custody and has been charged with armed assault with intent to murder and will be arraigned on Monday (March 31).
Although the rest of the family arrived late, the funeral went on as scheduled with family members upset but didn’t want to talk about the shooting.
Father William Williams of St. Peter’s Church, where the funeral was held, told Boston.com that he did see blood stains on the limousine and the hearse.
Benzino announced earlier in the week on his Instagram page that his mother, Mary Ann Scott, had passed away.
"She was a beautiful, strong, hardworking, independent, caring, loving, stern, proud Cape Verdean woman, now she is an Angel, God is lucky, trust me she is in Heaven watching me and I wont let her down. R.I.P Mary Ann Scott.......my Mother," he wrote.
There is no word yet from Benzino’s camp, VH1 or Mona Scott Young.
Meanwhile, 'Love & Hip-Hop Atlanta' co-star Stevie J and former Source editor Dave Mays visited Benzino in the hospital. See the pics below.
