Since 2008, XXL magazine has been spotlighting up-and-coming rappers with their popular Freshman Class franchise. For seven years, the editors painstakingly pick who they feel will become major players in the rap game.

Many of the rappers who appeared on past Freshman Class covers have gone on to have successful rap careers, including No. 1 albums and Grammy Award nominations and wins. However, there are many who have not fared so well.

Some of the most notable Freshman Class alumni include Kendrick Lamar, Big Sean, Wiz Khalifa, Lupe Fiasco, B.o.B, J. Cole, YG, Big K.R.I.T., Macklemore, Meek Mill, Kevin Gates and Ty Dolla $ign, among others.

The Boombox decided to look back at the rappers and singers who made it to XXL’s prestigious Freshman Class after the 2015 cover was revealed. From the class of 2008 to 2014, find out where they are now and see what they have been doing in their careers since their recognition from the magazine.
