Trey Songz is paying tribute to David Bowie with a cover of the late rock star's song "Life on Mars?"

Trigga layed down his vocals in the piano-driven ballad for HBO's new series, Vinyl. While the connection between the two artists may seem odd, the end result is gorgeous.

Apparently, the idea to cover the song came about before Bowie's shocking death earlier this year. In a statement, Songz expressed his thoughts on his reinterpretation of Bowie's classic tune.

"When I was approached last summer by the producers of ‘Vinyl,’ the first thing I thought was, ‘Damn that’s a David Bowie song.' I was honored that the producers thought of such a legend and myself in the same breath. I had to do what I do best, because icons like David paved the way," Songz told Complex.

"After learning of his passing I knew that this was a special moment in time and this cover became my personal tribute to David," he continues. "Experiences like this have helped to shape my future and respect the past of others before me. This has become a very special moment in my career and I am blessed and grateful to be apart!"

Trey Songz has been a busy man. After dropping his mixtape, earlier this year, the 31-year-old crooner is continuing to work on his follow-up to his 2014 effort, Trigga.
