The Weeknd released his new album Starboy last Friday, and his fans are loving it. After just one day, the album was #1 in 80 different countries. Now, Spotify confirms that he's set a new record for the most streams in one day on their platform. He passed former record holder Justin Bieber, whose music was streamed 36 million times on November 13, 2015.

“We can confirm that as of Nov. 26, The Weeknd is now the artist with the most streams on Spotify in a single day,” Monte Lipman, Chairman & Co-Founder of Republic Records stated in a press release.

Spotify’s Global Head of Creator Services, Troy Carter, was excited about the historic moment and believes The Weeknd will continue to put his name in Spotify's record book.

“We’re proud to have partnered with The Weeknd, his management and Republic Records on a phenomenal album," Carter said. "We look forward to breaking even more records together in the near future.”

Spotify has yet to release the specific figures for The Weeknd's new streaming record.  Starboy, The Weeknd's third studio album released through XO and Republic, is the follow-up to last year's Beauty Behind the Madness, which made a No. 1 debut with 412,000 equivalent album units.

Meanwhile, fellow Canadian Drake still holds the record for the most streamed song ever with “One Dance.” The popular song has accrued more than 880 million streams when it took the record from Major Lazer, DJ Snake, and MØ’s “Lean On.”

Starboy is available now.
