The Roots performed their haunting track 'Never' on 'The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon' on Tuesday (May 20).

With a little help from DJ A-Trak and the Metropolis String Ensemble, the legendary Philly band presented an ethereal performance of the song with crashing cymbals, pounding drums and angelic voices. On the decks, A-Trak scratches the yearning cries of Patty Crash.

Meanwhile, Black Thought delivers solemn lyrics of despair about folks who turn to substance abuse to escape the realities of life.

"I was born faceless in an oasis / Folks disappear here and leave no traces / No family ties, no laces / Less than a full deck, no aces / Waitin' on Superman, losing all patience / Gettin' wasted on an everyday basis / I'm stuck here can't take a vacation / Man, listen this here is damnation," he raps.

If you haven't done so, go and cop The Roots' new album, '...And Then You Shoot Your Cousin.' It's available on iTunes and Okayplayer.com.
