For the past decade, the annual Roots Picnic in Philadelphia would go off without a hitch, but on Saturday (June 2), things didn’t go quite as planned.

According to Philly.com, the 11th annual music festival, hosted by the Roots crew, was cut short due to inclement weather.

The torrential downpours and lighting made it unsafe for the band as well as thousands of fans who converge at Festival Pier in Penn’s Landing. Questlove had to make the hard decision to shut down the festival minutes into their headlining set with funnyman Dave Chappelle. Questlove tweeted:

Rapper 2 Chainz and Brandy were supposed to join the Roots for an hour-long jam session but the main question before their set was who was going to be the surprise guest during their performance. Although there hasn't been an official confirmation, Common was supposed to be the secretive guest.

Before the cancellation, Black Thought rock the mic and got the crowd hyped when he brought out Fabolous, Jadakiss and Styles P.

However, earlier in the day, fans saw a few performances from their favorite artists. Dipset reunited once again and delivered a great set of their classic hits. The King of the South T.I. also came through and show some southern hospitality to the Philly fans.
