Rick Ross Tops Billboard Charts With ‘Mastermind,’ Pharrell’s ‘G I R L’ at No. 2
Despite talks of Rick Ross falling off his game, the rapper has once again topped the Billboard charts.
'Mastermind,' his sixth studio effort, debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 200. The project beats Pharrell's 'G I R L' despite the publicity generated by its surprise announcement.
'Mastermind' is Rick Ross' fifth album to reach No. 1. The only album of his career to not reach the top spot is 2010's 'Teflon Don,' which debuted at No. 2 after losing out to Eminem's platinum-selling 'Recovery.'
Ross' latest effort sold approximately 184,726 copies, according to Hits Daily Double. The sales number is a slight fall off from his last album 'God Forgives, I Don't,' which sold 218,000 copies in its first week.
'G I R L' sold 110,090 copies, a bit of a drop from his last solo release. 'In My Mind' earned 142,000 copies in its debut week.
While these two artist enjoy success, ScHoolboy Q's 'Oxymoron' suffered a major drop after its first week. During the first week of release, the LP came in at 139,000 units sold. For the second week out, only 30,237 -- a 78 percent drop.
