Raekwon Enlists G-Eazy on the Symphonic Banger ‘Purple Brick Road’ [LISTEN]
The Wu-Tang legacy is in full effect with the upcoming release of Raekwon’s new album called The Wild. On Thursday (Feb. 16), Rae dropped a new single, “Purple Brick Road,” featuring G-Eazy.
Produced by J.U.S.T.I.C.E. league, the song features soaring violins and a crackling drum beat. On the head-nodding track, Rae and G-Eazy rap about their struggles to success and the life obstacles that came along with it.
"Clarity, stones in my bracelets, watches and rings / From a rich nigga's perspective you know what that brings - hatred," he spits. "What am I supposed to do when I'm so used to shittin' on 'em / Do I stop because a jealous ass coward wants me to / Or do I go harder and buy more diamonds and blind his crew / F--- it, I guess I do that 'cause I love to make em blue."
G-Eazy enters the chamber on the third verse, referencing Raekown's classic 1995 debut album Only Built 4 Cuban Linx. "Cuban links on my neck and I just put a presidential on my wrist / This year you haters gonna acknowledge this / It's G-Rapo and Raekwon / Told the homies this wouldn't take long / My verses always just as real as a true story it's based on," he raps.
In an interview with Pitchfork, Raekwon explained why he tapped G-Eazy for his symphonic banger. "As I shift gears with my diversity, I want fans to see another side of a champion; my triumphs remain inimitable when making music for yesterday and today’s culture," he said. "G-Eazy is a master writer and he helped me create the greatest vision any artist could ask for; another great recipe from my skillful cookbook. This album is a circus of emotions. I hope you get a great seat to what I will display on The Wild. Get ready..."
The Wild, which features contributions from Lil Wayne, Andra Day and CeeLo Green, will hit stores on March 24.
