North Carolina rapper Petey Pablo was sentenced to 35 months in federal prison at a hearing in the US District Court in New Bern, North Carolina, earlier today, according to reports.

The 38-year-old 'Raise Up' rapper, born Moses Barrett III, was arrested on Sept. 11, 2010, after attempting to smuggle a loaded 9mm handgun through airport security at Raleigh-Durham International Airport, en route to the MTV Video Music Awards in Los Angeles. After further investigation, the handgun was revealed to have been stolen from a home in Gardena, Calif. back in 2005.

Striking a plea bargain with the prosecution, Petey pleaded guilty to possession of a stolen firearm on March 16, avoiding the other charges stemming from the incident. He faced up to 10 years in prison.

"I mean, I always feel confident. In the end, the truth always comes to the light," the former Timbaland protégé recently told HipHopDX, regarding his sentencing. "And, regardless of what the outcome is, I'm a man. And whatever has been written in my book of life is written in my book of life. So whatever the outcome of any situation is, I have no choice but to handle it."

There is no word as to when Petey will begin serving out his sentence.
