Though there wasn't much controversy at last night's MTV Video Music Awards, rapper Petey Pablo didn't even get a chance to take part in all the action. The North Carolina emcee was making his way over to the Los Angeles award show on Saturday when he was arrested at Raleigh Durham Airport after attempting to conceal a 9mm automatic pistol in his carry-on luggage.

The 'Raise Up' emcee, who was later charged with carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of stolen property, was arrested and released on $50,000 bail. The rapper will appear in a Wake County courtroom today to face the consequences of his actions.

This isn't the first time that Pablo, whose real name is Moses Barrett III, has been in trouble with the law. He was arrested in Raleigh for armed robbery in 1993 and was sentenced to 14 years in prison. He was released after serving six years in jail, after which he moved to New York and began his career as a rapper.

Pablo released his debut album 'Diary of a Sinner: 1st Entry' in 2001, nabbing the hit 'Raise Up' and moving more than 500,000 copies of the effort. His 2004 follow-up 'Still Writing in My Diary: 2nd Entry' spawned the smash single 'Freek-a-Leek.' He is currently recording his upcoming third album, 'A&R: Anticipated Recordings,' to be released independently later this year.
