Lil Wayne is trying to get into the Guinness Book of World Records, and he turned to his Facebook fans to make it happen. The rapper, who has more than 20 million followers on his Facebook page, looked to garner the most "Likes" for a single Facebook post in a period of 24 hours.

"Everyone, please "Like" this post," Weezy wrote on his page Tuesday (Feb. 15). "I'm trying to break the Guinness World Record for most "Likes" on a post in 24 hours. Let's get it!!!"

However, Nabisco cookie maker Oreo was also vying for the title. Kraft, the parent company of Nabisco, set out on the challenge Tuesday, asking over 16 million of their fans to "like" their page, and although they snagged 30,000 likes in an hour, Wayne jumped in for the steal grabbing almost 200,000 responses an hour after his posting. An hour after the 24-hour window ended, Weezy's post had accumulated a total 602,904 likes from his fans on the social media site. It is unknown how many of those were added after the buzzer. Oreo's post topped off at 116,581.

Although the final numbers have yet to be tallied and confirmed, even with a defeat, Oreo remains one of the Top 5 most engaged brands in regards to social media. "We wanted something that was truly global and that all our fans could participate in," a rep for the company said.

According to Guinness, they are aware of both attempts at getting in the famed record book, and originally gave the crown to the cookie company until Weezy jumped in the mix. "Guinness World Records awarded a new record for the 'Most Likes on a Facebook Post in 24 Hours' to Oreo Cookies with 114,619 'Likes' to a single post," read a message posted to their website today. "We are, however, aware of Lil Wayne's attempt for the same record which is currently ongoing. Guinness World Records will review any applicants' evidence once they have completed their attempt, which in this case is at the end of the 24 hour period. The nature of record breaking is dynamic and around the globe records are attempted and broken on an hourly basis. This record demonstrates how exciting social media records can be and it is great to see so many people getting involved with these attempts."

Although it hasn't been confirmed, The BoomBox thinks Weezy has this one in the bag. Seeing as how Weezy's fans tend to be pretty loyal, with one even camping outside of Rikers Island to catch him as he was released from prison last year, there's a pretty good chance he'll become a Guinness World Record holder, eventually.
