Lil Wayne will film a segment for 'MTV2 Presents: Lil Wayne Unplugged' during an upcoming May 12 performance in Los Angeles, making him the first hip-hop artist to appear on the series in exactly a decade.

The segment will air on June 12, in conjunction with Wayne's upcoming 'Tha Carter IV' album release. The Young Money ringleader will be featured on the network's first televised rap concert for the series since Jay-Z's 2001 special.

MTV's EVP of Music and Talent, Amy Doyle, explained the decision to feature Wayne in a statement. "Lil Wayne is an amazing choice for 'Unplugged' as he is at hip-hop's forefront -- leading a new generation of artists whose appeal spans across music genres and playlists," Doyle said. "Lil Wayne's skills, influence, and catalog are a powerful addition to the legacy of artists who have rocked the 'Unplugged' stage."

On May 1, Lil Wayne completed the first leg of his I Am Still Music tour, which featured performances from Nicki Minaj, Travis Barker and Rick Ross. He then promptly announced 40 additional tour dates that will extend through September. The second leg of the tour will kick off in Hartford, Conn. on July 13 and conclude in Woodlands, Texas on September 11.

'MTV2 Presents: Lil Wayne Unplugged,' will premiere on MTV, MTV2 and MTV.com on Sunday, June 12, at 9PM EST.
