Lauryn Hill Tax Trouble: Singer Owes $440,000 to State of New Jersey
The tax drama continues for Lauryn Hill, who's in trouble again after pleading guilty to three counts of federal tax evasion in June. As TMZ reports, Hill has also been negligent on her New Jersey taxes, and she owes the state more than $440,000.
In a civil judgment filed June 14, Garden State collectors are seeking $446,386 in unpaid taxes. That's on top of the $1.8 million she already owes Uncle Sam.
As TMZ points out, the Jersey case is not yet a criminal matter, which is lucky, since the former Fugees star is facing three years in prison for her failure to file federal returns in 2005, 2006 and 2007. She's due in court for sentencing in November.
