JAY-Z Interested in Buying Harvey Weinstein’s Stake in The Weinstein Company
JAY-Z is reportedly in talks with his team to purchase Harvey Weinstein’s share in The Weinstein Company.
Insiders have told TMZ that Hov, along with other investors, including a billionaire, are talking about purchasing Weinstein’s 23 percent stake in the company. Of course, JAY has a working relationship wit the Oscar-winning movie executive. The rap mogul signed a first-look film deal with the company, who have produced the documentary series, TIME: The Kalief Browder Story. JAY has also a Trayvon Martin miniseries in production as well.
The news comes as Weinstein is being accused of sexual misconduct. According to a New York Times report, the veteran studio executive sexually harassed at least eight women. Weinstein was also fired last week from his own company, who said they are conducting its own internal investigation.
The Obamas recently released a statement on the allegations against Weinstein. “Michelle and I have been disgusted by the recent reports about Harvey Weinstein,” Barack Obama said in the statement. “Any man who demeans and degrades women in such fashion needs to be condemned and held accountable, regardless of wealth or status."
Sources tell TMZ that JAY-Z wants to maintain his relationship with the Weinstein company and since Harvey is no longer there, he wants to acquiring a significant equity stake in the company.
Reps for JAY-Z had no comment on the matter.
