Jay Electronica Releases ‘Dimethyltryptamine’ Video

Jay Electronica is clearly working on his own schedule.

The highly acclaimed, New Orleans bred lyricist signed to Jay-Z's Roc Nation imprint late last year but the major co-sign has done little to increase the enigmatic MC's musical output. Eager fans are taking what they can get, the latest being a new video for 'Dimethyltryptamine,' a song that is at least four years old.

Jay Elec and filmmaker Jason Goldwatch shot the video on location in Kathmandu, Nepal a couple of years ago, but the former never approved its release. Nevertheless, OkayPlayer dropped the video online this past weekend -- with the note "Don't be mad at me Jay" -- and also included details about the song -- it's based on a dream -- as well as information that the pair shot a few videos during their stay in Nepal.

At the time of its creation, the rapper was aligned with Decon Records, who released his breakthrough single 'Exhibit C.' In 2007, Jay Elec uploaded a video he created for the J. Dilla-Jay Dee produced song that predates the newer clip.

Some of Electronica's more recent music includes 'Shiny Suit Theory' and 'The Announcement.' The now Brooklyn-based rapper also appeared in a commercial for Mountain Dew's Code Red campaign, which features a remixed version of the latter song. Another newer track from Jay Elec is 'Jazzmatazz,' an ode to the late Gang Starr rapper Keith "Guru" Elam, who passed away due to complications from cancer in 2010.

Jay Electronica is currently in South Africa at work on his as-yet-untitled debut album.
