Jay Electronica on His Long-Delayed Debut Album: ‘I Release Music On My Own Time’ [VIDEO]
During the NBA All-Star Weekend festivities, Jay Electronica performed at the Jay Z-hosted #TIDALxNOLA event in his hometown of New Orleans. It was there that Hov told Jay Elect what fans have been screaming for nearly a decade: “Let’s go put this album out.”
After the show, Complex was able to corner the Man of the hour and ask him directly, “When are you going to release your debut album?” In the video above, the 40-year-old rapper told reporter Tamara Dhia that an “album is coming” but he didn't give a specific due date.
“Nobody in the world wants a Jay Electronica album out more than me,” he states. “I release music on my own time.”
“It’s humbling, too,” he added. “After all of these years that anybody has interest in what I’m doing.”
Jay Elect further explained that his creative process continues to evolve over time and “you can’t put a stopwatch on that.”
“Now at the same time, I did sign a deal with my man Jay,” he said. “So I gave him my word, an album is coming.”
Hopefully, Jay Electronica will drop his long-awaited debut project this year. Rap fans are ready for him, so let’s get it done.
